Move-In Checklist
Seamless, Stress-Free Moving — Powered by Tamar Property Group
Moving into a new rental home in Palm Beach County?
Use our comprehensive checklist to make your move organized, stress-free, and fully protected
from day one.
- 1. Before You Move
Before moving into your new home, take time to get everything in order. Completing these necessary steps ahead of time helps ensure a smooth, organized, and stress-free move-in experience.
Planning & Preparation
- Confirm your move-in date and any building or HOA policies
- Hire a licensed, insured moving company (confirm insurance requirements if applicable).
- Measure doorways, stairways, and elevators for large furniture.
- Declutter and donate or sell items you no longer need.
- Prepare a documents box with your lease, IDs, and receipts.
Change of Address
Update your address with:
- USPS
- Bank & Credit cards
- Employer & Payroll
- Insurance Providers
- Subscriptions & Online providers
- Florida DMV (Driver's License and vehicle registration)
- 2. Set Up Utilities & Services
Make sure your essential utilities and services are ready to go when you are. Setting them up in advance ensures your new home is comfortable and fully functional the moment you arrive.
Activate utilities before move-in day:
- Electric: Florida Power & Light (FPL)
- Water/Sewer: Palm Beach County Water Utilities or city provider
- Internet/Cable: Xfinity, AT&T, or other local carriers
- Trash & Recycling: Confirm with your city or HOA
- Gas (if applicable): Florida Public Utilities or local provider
- Pro Tip: Take photos of meter readings on move-in day to confirm billing accuracy.
- 3. Lease Review & Payments
Take a moment to carefully review your lease agreement and confirm all required payments are completed. Understanding your lease terms helps prevent confusion later and keeps everything running smoothly from day one.
- Review your lease agreement carefully — note rent due dates, renewal timelines, and maintenance terms.
- Pay your security deposit and first month’s rent using the approved method.
- Request and save receipts or written confirmations for every payment.
- Confirm move-in and move-out procedures in writing.
- 4. Move-In Inspection
Before settling in, walk through your new home to ensure everything is clean, safe, and in proper working order. Documenting the property’s condition at move-in helps protect both you and the property throughout your lease.
- Schedule a walkthrough with your landlord or property manager.
- Take photos/videos of every room, wall, floor, and appliance.
- Record findings in a Move-In Condition Report — signed by both parties.
- Keep a copy for your records to protect your security deposit.
- 5. Insurance & Community Rules
Review your renter’s insurance coverage and make sure it meets any community requirements. Take time to familiarize yourself with neighborhood or property rules so you can enjoy your new home while staying in good standing with the community.
- Obtain renter’s insurance (with liability and contents coverage).
- Add Tamar Property Group or the property owner as an “interested party,” if required.
- Review your HOA or community rules for parking, noise, trash, and amenity use.
- 6. Move-In Day Essentials
Keep important items like keys, documents, and basic necessities close at hand on moving day. Being prepared helps your move go smoothly and lets you settle into your new home with ease.
- Confirm all keys, remotes, and access cards work properly.
- Test and inspect:
- Air conditioning & ceiling fans
- Plumbing (toilets, sinks, showers)
- Smoke detectors & light fixtures
- Appliances & laundry units
- Report any issues in writing immediately.
- Save your property manager’s contact info (including after-hours maintenance).
- 7. After You Move In
After you’ve moved in, take time to settle comfortably and get familiar with your new home. Make note of any maintenance needs, confirm your tenant portal access, and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you get started.
- Store your lease, inspection report, and receipts in a safe place.
- Set up reminders for rent due dates and lease renewal deadlines.
- Replace A/C filters regularly and schedule pest control, if needed.
- Get to know your community — neighbors, HOA, and local events.
- Pro Tip: Keep all communication with your landlord or property manager in writing. It helps ensure clarity, protects your rights, and keeps your experience stress-free.
